MARLOW AND DAUGHTERS

Sara and I stopped by Marlow and Daughters for some stuff to make for dinner in Oyster Bay: sausages, asaparagus, cheese. We then had lunch at Saltie. If you tried to cast this place with hip extras (cute girls with undefined ethnicities in summer dresses and guys pulling off the fake manly thing a lot better than me) you couldn't have done a better job than the crowd having lunch here yesterday. We shared the Scuttlebutt and the Clean Slate. It's served open face on nan with hummus, quinoa, radishes, cilantro and pickled rhubarb (I think). The menu is very small and now that I've tried everything, I'm ready for some seasonal specialties.

L'ARTUSI

L'Artusi is really good but everything was too salty. Tracy, Kat and I went here after the BBQ festival and some World Cup watching. We shared a few pastas and chicory salad.

BIG APPLE BARBEQUE BLOCK PARTY

Went to the Big Apple BBQ Block Party with Tracy and Kat (who's a vegetartian!) I have heartburn.

STEAKS

I haven't done much grilling in my life, so I was a little nervous about making these expensive porterhouse steaks... especially since they were being served to honest 10-year old girls, who would have no problem telling me if it was too raw or burnt. We grilled in Mindy's back yard on a not too hot New York night. All of my America's Test Kitchen-watching paid off because these turned out great.

NO. 7 SUB

I've been wanting to check out No. 7 Sub for a while. It's a take-out sandwich place connected to the Ace Hotel. Mindy, her daughter Lucy and Lucy's friend Justine and I all shared sandwiches in Madison Square Park. It was a good New York summer day, not too hot and there happened to be a parade of Sikhs going by to watch while we ate. Broccoli with Mozzarella, pesto and fried lemon (above). General Tso's Tofo: fried tofu, pickled rhubarb, peas, garlic (below)

WORLD CUP FEVER, I'VE GOT IT

Also, this article below explains the wierd buzzing sound during the matches.

Today we saw the beginning of the FIFA World Cup 2010, and something that caught the attention of millions of viewers is the buzzing sound you hear throughout the games. This sound is made by a trumpet called the Vuvuzela.

The vuvuzela is a plastic horn that became widely used after the 2009 FIFA Federations Cup, and FIFA had plans to ban it because it could be used as a weapon by sick soccer fans, but perhaps the stronger cause was the possibility of having unsanctioned advertising in the horn.

To me, they should ban it because it is extremely annoying. I guess we will have to get accustomed to the annoying buzzing sound during games, If I was a player I would get even more annoyed since it is a stressing sound. What happened to traditional horns?

By the way, it always seems to sound like the beginning of “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’Roses don’t you think?

MODERN FAMILY

I've heard good things about ABC's Modern Family. That's my night.
