LAZY OX CANTEEN

The Lazy Ox Canteen is my favorite kind of place. If I ran a restaurant, I would want it to be like this. It has an open kitchen, lots of bar seating and chalk boards on the wall describing the day's menu. We started with the crispy surf clams (two great words: crispy and surf) which are a regular menu item. Two of the day's specials were snow peas and tendrils with quinoa and yuzo, and broccoli rabe with chili flakes.

Another regular item is dashi marinated yellowtail with hashbrowns.
For dessert we shared butterscotch pudding. It's similar to the version at Mozza, but lighter.

  1. Totally agree with your take on this joint! Problem is, I can't get Angelinos who live in Venice/Santa Monica/and beyond to travel downtown to this place. Their loss I guess....
