PRISSY POLLY'S

A friend's dad's funeral brought me to Winston-Salem, NC on Friday. This is where I grew up (sort of). My mom picked Kim, George and I up at the airport in Greensboro and we headed for Prissy Polly's. I had a classic Barbeque sandwich, no slaw. The reason I say "sort of" is that our family moved south when I was in the sixth grade. Up until then we lived in Connecticut. I love the south: the food, the tradition, the way people treat one another... but I never really felt from the south, more like a welcome guest. The fact that my family is Jewish added to the outsider feeling. I still have that to an extent, but I love to visit down there.
